After five WIAA Division I state appearances in cross country and track, I was faced with a career ending automobile accident my senior year - shattering my femur and having it reconstructed via a plate and 14 screws. I started bodybuilding and added as much as 100 lbs to my frame. After a 23-year hiatus from running, in 2011 I began training and racing once again as a competitive "Super Clydesdale" runner - runners over 225 lbs. Today's weight is 220 lbs (-20 overall). Same weight as yesterday. Like before, this is more than likely due to the water weight I hold in my muscles the day after lifting.
I weighed in again today at 226 lbs (-14 lbs overall) which was my weight yesterday. I attribute this to the vast amount of water I drank well into the evening last night. I also weighed myself a couple hours earlier than normal so I'm probably holding onto some water that hasn't yet worked its way through my system.
Today I felt a little groggy. Day 7 is notorious for being challenging. This evening I'm feeling better and surprisingly energized from my run.
Today's weight was 226 lbs (-14 lbs overall). I should note that although losing many pounds is certainly nice, this is just a byproduct, however, of the primary goal of the Master Cleanse which is to cleanse and detoxify the system. I'm feeling very clear with almost a renewed sense of purpose in life. My acne has cleared-up and my body doesn't itch as much as it has in the past. Also, like yesterday, I'm continuing to purge solid waste material.

Drinking lots of water is the key I'm finding. I'm consuming @2 gallons of naturally pure artesian well water daily.
Today I weighed in at 227 lbs (-13 lbs overall). Today I noticed some of the classic detox symptoms: feeling cold, my tongue is very coated and some dizziness. Today I'm really first seeing the results of the cleanse as my body is purging copious amounts of old waste that was hindering my system. They say those that have eaten haphazardly over the years may take four days or so to get things moving - this was definitely the case with me.

The naysayers say the body naturally cleanses itself. True, the body has amazing restorative abilities, however, it needs some assistance every so often. Thank about it: For six days I was on nothing but liquids and expelled only water. Now first I'm seeing solid waste being expelled from my body; waste which was clinging to the walls and hiding amongst the folds of my colon.
Today I weighed in at 229 lbs (-11 lbs overall). Two pounds lighter than yesterday. I'm still trying to figure out why I gained a pound on Saturday - I wonder if I did weigh myself incorrectly and I was actually 235? Who knows, I'm progressing and seeing excellent results. My waist is also down an inch.

# of Master Cleanse drinks consumed: 12

Exercise: I ran a relaxed four miles this evening at 9:10 mile pace and felt wonderful. I can really tell the difference in improved running efficiency from losing the weight. Standard rule of thumb is for every pound one is over their lean ideal weight, this costs them two seconds per mile. So if one would drop 30 lbs, they should be a full minute per mile faster. I always like to tell the skinny 200 pounders out there to put a 45 lb weight plate in a backpack, wear it and then try racing me and see how they'd do! If they're anything short of 4 1/2 minutes faster of me, then I'm performing better due to the extra weight I'm carrying. Hence the reasoning for the Super Clydesdale racing division - runners over 225 lbs.

Again, I'm amazed how much energy I have. I'm sleeping very sound and don't need frequent naps like I have in the past. My hands feel ice cold, which is normal, I've read. Last night I noticed my tongue have a gooey white coating on it and having a peculiar taste in my mouth. This, too, is normal based on my research.

I weighed in at 231 lbs today (-9 lbs overall). So I somehow gained a pound from yesterday. I've been trying to figure out the reasoning behind this, and can only attribute this to two things.

I weighed myself a few hours earlier than I did yesterday

I'm carrying more water weight due to the 200+ ounces of water I'm drinking daily now

I'm eager to see what I weigh tomorrow morning.

# of Master Cleanse drinks consumed: 11

Here are a couple strategies I've been employing:

Stanley Burroughs, the developer of the Master Cleanse, recommends 1/10th of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in each of the drinks daily. However, he does say the more the merrier. I've been doubling this dose and sometimes will use 4x the minimum amount.

In addition to the @100ozs of drink I'm consuming daily, I also need to get about another 100+ ozs of plain water as well. An easy way, I've found, to do this is right after drinking one of the prepared concoctions I immediately fill up my glass with 12ozs of plan water and make sure to drink it before it's time for my next prepared drink.

I've been yearning to do the "Master Cleanse" for quite some time now. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, please follow this link: All About "The Master Cleanse"

In a nutshell, the Master Cleanse initially requires eating raw fruits and veggies for a period of 4 days. Then for a minimum of 10 days (some go as long at 40 days) all one ingests is a drink mixture of spring water, maple syrup, fresh lemon juice and cayenne pepper. All ingredients are organic. You obtain your energy and vitamins & minerals via the maple syrup (up to 1200 calories daily) and the rest of the concoction works to detoxify your body (there is nutritional value in the lemon juice and cayenne pepper as well). Also part of the program is taking a laxative tea before retiring for the evening and drinking one quart of water with sea salt first thing in the morning to flush the system.

It's beneficial to have a support structure in place when doing a cleanse. I'm fortunate that my girlfriend Jessica who is a nurse practitioner and has done this cleanse a number of times is doing it with me and guiding me through the process.

Day 1
I started my "break in" period on Monday and weighed in at 240 lbs. On Day 1, I ate unlimited amounts of raw veggie salads and drank all the fruit smoothies I wanted.

Day 2
Weighed in at 238 lbs (-2 lbs overall). This day, like Day 1, I continued eating veggie salads and drinking the fruit smoothies.

Day 3
Weighed in at 235 lbs (-5 lbs overall). On this day I drank all the freshly prepared vegetable and fruit juices I could drink.

Day 4
Weighed in at 233 lbs (-7 lbs overall). Today all I drank was freshly juiced orange juice. All I could drink. If I started to feel hungry I'd add a tablespoon of maple syrup to the orange juice - I was surprised at how delicious this mixture tasted.
